Super sub Watkins sends England to Euro 2024 final against Spain

England's spot in Sunday's Euro 2024 final was secured by a magnificent late goal from Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, as the Three Lions defeated the Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund.

England defeated the Netherlands 2-1 to secure their spot in the Euro 2024 final against Spain thanks to a thrilling late goal from Ollie Watkins.

Xavi Simons gave the Netherlands the lead on minute seven of what turned out to be a back-and-forth opening forty-five minutes when his long-range strike beat Jordan Pickford in the England goal.

After more than ten minutes, a contentious penalty gave England a way back into the match. Harry Kane, the team's captain, scored from the penalty spot to give Gareth Southgate's team an equalizer. Despite Kane's real kick to Denzel Dumfries, the penalty was so soft that VAR decided to award England the spot-kick.

Both teams struggled to create a clear opportunity in the second half, which turned out to be considerably more nervous. Bukayo Saka gave England the ball in the back of the net, but Kyle Walker was deemed to be offside.

It appeared as though the Three Lions would need to go into additional extra time when the clock reached added-on time. But Watkins, who had come on for Kane, scored past Bart Verbruggen with a close-range effort to throw England supporters into a frenzy of jubilation.
