Tottenham 3–4. Chelsea: The Blues overcome a two-goal deficit to win and move four points clear of leaders Liverpool.

Chelsea closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points after rallying from a two-goal deficit to defeat London rivals Tottenham 4-3.

Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski gave Spurs a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes, and Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella was forced to change his boots after sliding for both goals. Spurs have wasted a two-goal lead for the second time this season after losing 3-2 at Brighton in October.

Then, in the seventeenth minute, Jadon Sancho gave the visitors a chance to get back into the game with a fantastic curling low finish off the post from outside the box.

Despite a VAR review, Chelsea player Moises Caicedo was not sent off for an over-the-ball foul on Pape Matar Sarr in the first half.

Palmer then equalised from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after Caicedo won a second-half penalty after drawing a reckless challenge from Yves Bissouma.

Chelsea always appeared to have the best chance of winning, and Enzo Fernandez's strong near-post volley in the 73rd minute sealed the comeback.

Sarr handed away another bad penalty after fouling Palmer, who then stepped up to strike a cool Panenka in the 84th minute to double Chelsea's lead, highlighting Spurs' defensive weaknesses once more.

Enzo Maresca's team managed to hold on for a fourth consecutive league victory, moving second behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand after the Reds' match against Everton was postponed on Saturday. Heung-Min Son pulled back with a goal in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.

Spurs are on the other end of the spectrum, with back-to-back league losses dropping them to 11th place, seven points outside the top four, and further putting pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

Ange: We played well, but it was a terrible loss.
Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Tottenham:

It hurts. unpleasant. Everything has gone wrong for us, and we need to reorganise before they score. We had a great start, but then we lost Cristian Romero.

"I believed we had pivotal moments to earn a third. We had a great opportunity to turn the tide of the match with Son, but the second half was a ding-dong. We need more discipline in the box since the two penalties we received weren't very good.

"We performed well today, but not against Bournemouth [our 1-0 loss on Thursday]. They are a positive aspect. An elite group. The game was decided by the crucial times when we were interrupted.

"We must keep our discipline when playing football because we are difficult to stop. Since the game was at stake, they weren't necessary. Playing against these elite teams can cause these momentum shifts to occur rapidly.

Chelsea sends a championship warning, and Maresca gets it right.

Whether Arsenal would eventually defeat Manchester City was the main topic of discussion at the beginning of the Premier League title chase. Liverpool entered the discussion thanks to their impressive start. Chelsea, their closest rivals, can no longer be ignored.

They had to overcome a two-goal deficit to defeat Tottenham 4-3 on the road on Sunday, but their performance was a bit more forceful than the score indicates.

Chelsea won the match thanks to Maresca's halftime adjustments. One was subtle: Benoit Badiashile was having trouble handling Dominic Solanke and Heung-Min Son on his weaker right side, so he switched his center-backs. It was the correct thing to do.

Romeo Lavia was possibly Chelsea's finest player in the first half, thus the decision to bench him was intriguing. Maresca chose to transfer Moises Caicedo into midfield rather than bench him even though he knew he needed Malo Gusto, a specialised right-back.

That man Caicedo ran into the box and drew a reckless foul from Yves Bissouma, earning the first penalty. After a productive afternoon, Maresca moved up to second place, surpassing Arsenal, with their fifth consecutive victory across all competitions.

How far are they able to go? There are still problems at the back, and some fans will be quick to point out that goalie Robert Sanchez is still a worry. Compared to Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal both have stronger defensive records.

However, no club has been able to match their 35 goals thus far, and that firepower might still make the difference in a close fight for the championship. Chelsea won't be distracted by their opponents and will win a number of games. For Maresca's new side, an opportunity is opening up.
