Tottenham has officially announced that they have signed Lens defender Kevin Danso.
The north London club is required to make the move permanent in the summer, but the 26-year-old has joined Spurs on loan until the end of the current campaign.
For the most of the January transfer window, Wolves had been in negotiations to sign Danso, and they scheduled the Austrian international's physical for Sunday morning.
However, Wolves started late talks with Danso and were informed following Saturday's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa that the midfielder had decided to join Spurs.
Following Radu Dragusin's injury sustained during the Europa League victory over Elfsborg, Spurs had been searching for a new defender throughout this transfer window. Micky van de Ven has just returned from the treatment table, and Cristian Romero is also sidelined due to injury.
Fikayo Tomori was the subject of advanced negotiations between Ange Postecoglou's team and AC Milan, but the England international chose to remain with the Serie A team.
Spurs suffered that setback as Mathys Tel, a forward for Bayern Munich, declined a transfer to the team after Daniel Levy helped negotiate a £50 million price for the attacker.
With the January transfer window closing on Monday night at 11 p.m., Wolves, who have acquired defender Emmanuel Agbadou earlier in the month, are now searching for a new center-half.
Ange: Players still find Spurs to be a desirable choice.
Under fire boss Postecoglou says Tottenham is still a desirable option for new players ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
As the transfer window came to a conclusion, Spurs still had not acquired an outfield player, but they were able to make a last-minute deal for defender Danso.
Postecoglou stated, "It depends what the players are looking for," in reference to any new hires.
"There are two ways to look at it: while the league form isn't terrific right now, there are some really good chances to succeed here in the next three or four months.
"The question is whether the player sees the potential that we do now, or at least that I do. It's still a major club that can contend for honours. It's probably not the right one for us if it's too hard to sell.
"A little self-control is necessary. Bringing someone in who will only be another body is the one thing I don't want to do.
"Given what's about to happen, I don't think that's useful. Having said that, there is and has been a need for us. We've been searching for a player or two to assist us with the future because of this, but they must be compatible with our goals and be of the appropriate sort.
That's the tough part, I suppose. Although there are many players available, will they be the ideal ones? For us, it is the question.
